Keep Tahoe Blue bumper stickers were transformed into high fashion at the 2012 Aveda "Trashion Show" in San Francisco.
The League to Save Lake Tahoe was pleased to be selected as a partner for Aveda’s 2012 Earth Month Campaign for Clean Water in 2012. The fund raising effort brought nearly $10,000 to the League to support its work to Keep Tahoe Blue.
Each spring Aveda salons and partners from across the country join in a friendly competition to raise funds for regional charities working to ensure clean water in their area.
Aveda’s goal for the yearly campaign is to inspire its network and customers to become aware of the importance of protecting clean water for the environment and for human health.
As one of the recipients for the Pacific Northwest region, Northern California and Nevada salons with a love for Lake Tahoe raised money to help Keep Tahoe Blue through the month of April. Salons participating in the regional effort this year included Tangerine Aveda Salon Spa and L’essence Day Spa Salon, both in Reno, NV, the Shine Aveda Concept Salon Spa in Sparks, NV, and The Artistic, based in Auburn, CA. Through direct donations from salon patrons and stylists, raffles, silent auctions, text-to-donate programs, and other creative fundraisings strategies, participating salons raised funds and awareness about the need to Keep Tahoe Blue. Earth Month 2012 culminated in an exciting ‘Trashion Show’ held at Ruby Skye in San Francisco. Salons competed by showcasing their one-of-a-kind fashion creations made of previously discarded materials. The League was well represented at the event. Two garments in the show were made of old Keep Tahoe Blue stickers, and the League’s Executive Director, Darcie Goodman-Collins, Phd, sat on the judging panel to select the winners. Development Director Karen Hodges said the League was able to expand its education and community engagement programs due to the generous donation received through the Aveda Earth Month fund raiser.
“We were able to host and participate in many hands on projects as well as train others on how to become stewards of Lake Tahoe to Keep Tahoe Blue forever. We thank the Aveda salons and spas for including us in this great partnership,” said Hodges.
Aveda’s Earth Month Giving program has raised over $22 million since its start in 1999, and consistently raises more each year
