TOUR OF POTENTIAL RESTORATION SITE – UPPER TRUCKEE RIVER AND MARSH
South Lake Tahoe, CA. – The Upper Truckee River Watershed Stewardship Group will be joining the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) on a walking tour of the Upper Truckee River and Marsh on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. The tour will bring participants through the lower-most reach of the Upper Truckee River – an area where human alterations have adversely impacted the Upper Truckee River and surrounding marshland. The CTC, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are pursuing restoration efforts in the area.
The purpose of the tour is to educate the public about the Upper Truckee River and how it relates to the ecological function of Lake Tahoe, historical events that have resulted in degradation, and details on alternatives for the proposed restoration. The tour is designed as an informational session only, and is not a public hearing. The tour will be guided by a representative of the CTC.
Participants will be meeting at the League to Save Lake Tahoe at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Carpooling from the League to Save Lake Tahoe to the tour location is encouraged. The League to Save Lake Tahoe is located at 955 Emerald Bay Road (near the “Y”, across from the Tahoe Valley Post Office and El Dorado Savings Bank), in South Lake Tahoe.
