SPRAY PAINT: KEEPING URBAN POLLUTION OUT OF LAKE TAHOE!

Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe, CA. – Together with the Placer County Department of Public Works, the League to Save Lake Tahoe is hosting a “Storm Drain Stenciling” event in Kings Beach on Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Volunteers will be using spray paint and stencils to mark storm drains with the phrase: “NO DUMPING DRAINS TO LAKE.”

Stormwater pollution from urban areas contributes significantly to the declining water quality of Lake Tahoe. Unlike sanitary sewer systems, the water flowing into street gutters and storm drains is not treated by a wastewater treatment facility. Stormwater that enters street gutters and storm drains flows directly into nearby streams, rivers, and wetland environments eventually reaching Lake Tahoe.

Stenciling storm drains is a fun and easy way to get involved in the community and help keep pollutants out of Lake Tahoe. People of all ages are encouraged to participate!
