The League to Save Lake Tahoe is excited to announce the 11th annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day, which will be on Saturday July 12th, 2008. This is a community based volunteer forest restoration event in which volunteers get hands-on experience in restoring and protecting Lake Tahoe’s forests and watersheds. This year we have chosen to once again continue the restoration efforts of Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day in the Angora Fire Burn Area. Following the day’s rewarding restoration work and educational experiences will be a volunteer appreciation barbeque and raffle for all participants to enjoy.
In the summer of 2007, the Angora Fire burned over 3,100 acres of federal state and private lands, as well as destroying 242 homes and damaging 35 other homes. Currently, the area is at risk from accelerated runoff and sedimentation due to the burned slopes. This event will help the restoration efforts of the Angora Fire Burn Area by focusing community involvement on erosion control and fuels reduction efforts, noxious plant species removal, clean-up, and educational outreach.
We are looking for volunteers and individuals interested in being team leaders to work with teams of 10-15 volunteers in the field. Individuals or groups interested in participating in this year’s Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day as volunteers or team leaders should contact Flavia Sordelet of the League to Save Lake Tahoe at (530) 541-5388 or flavia@keeptahoeblue.org for more information.
