TAHOE CITY, Calif. (KCRA) — Keep Tahoe Blue hosted a Labor Day trash cleanup in Tahoe City on Monday, picking up 224 pounds of garbage along six miles of shoreline.
More than 70 volunteers took part in the four-hour event at Commons Beach, Skylandia Beach and along the Lower Truckee River.
“A lot of people don’t understand that when they come here it impacts all of the locals here,” Quinn Nicodemus from Incline Village said. “It’s so important. We live in such a beautiful place. We have to keep that clean.”
In the piles of litter were 2,064 cigarette butts and 1,520 plastic straws, according to the nonprofit.
