Before this week’s winter storm, Tahoe had recorded only inches of snowfall throughout January. Then an atmospheric river aimed squarely at the Sierra mountains dumped several feet of snow at higher elevations and in the Lake Tahoe basin.
Alpine Meadows recorded 80 inches of snow. Kirkwood recorded 88 inches of the white powder. Heavenly, just above South Lake Tahoe, recorded 51 inches. Even at lake level, 2-3 feet of new powder covered the ground.
