Marilee Movius
Marilee helps foster a more informed and engaged community to support efforts to protect Lake Tahoe. She oversees the League’s volunteer program, cultivates local partnerships, organizes the League’s community events and designs our educational materials. Marilee manages the League’s community cleanup efforts, which have removed thousands of pounds of trash from Tahoe’s beaches and neighborhoods, while raising awareness and providing hundreds of volunteers a direct way to protect Tahoe’s environment.
Marilee joined the League staff in 2014 after working for the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce for four years as their marketing and communications director. She played an integral part in developing the Chamber’s programs, such as the Sustainable Surf City Committee. Her passion for the environment also led her to chair the Surfrider Foundation’s Rise Above Plastics program for the Huntington Beach/Seal Beach Chapter as a volunteer. Marilee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism: Public Relations from California State University, Long Beach, and a certificate in graphic design from Golden West College.
Marilee grew up camping and hiking the Sierra. She enjoys backpacking, bike riding, yoga, snowboarding, paddleboarding, and crafting.
