The California Tahoe Conservancy has awarded $20,000 to support the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s Eyes on the Lake program. Eyes on the Lake is a citizen science program designed to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species in Tahoe’s waters. League scientists and engagement staff train community members on how to identify and report the presence of aquatic plants found while out enjoying the Lake.
“We are grateful for the California Tahoe Conservancy’s support for citizen science to protect Lake Tahoe,” said Darcie Goodman Collins, PhD, the League’s executive director. “Aquatic invasive plants are one of the most significant threats to the Lake’s ecology. The Conservancy’s financial support through their new ‘Plates for Projects’ campaign provides the means to expand our community engagement so we can identify and address new infestations more rapidly.”
Through the “Plates for Projects” summertime campaign, the Conservancy partners with local organizations to jointly promote Lake Tahoe License Plates and projects funded using License Plate revenue.
