Contentious, divisive development at Palisades Tahoe moves ahead

The next chapter in a decade-long saga about the future of Lake Tahoe’s largest ski resort has begun. On Friday, Placer County released the final revised environmental impact report for the Village at Palisades Tahoe Specific Plan. It’s a proposal to build almost 1,500 bedrooms across new hotels, condos and timeshares, as well as nearly 300,000 square feet of commercial space.

One of the most contentious parts of the development is a 90,000-square-foot amenity that opponents describe as a water park, despite the ski resort’s insistence that it is a recreation center.

The 94-acre development would take 25 years to complete and would mostly be constructed on top of the existing parking lot. If approved, it would utterly transform not just the ski resort but the entire community within Olympic Valley.
