Robotic beach-cleaning, added bathrooms and facilities will transform the site into a “Tahoe Blue Beach” in time for the holiday weekend
ZEPHYR COVE, LAKE TAHOE, Nev., June 26, 2024 – On Monday, July 1, Zephyr Cove and Shoals will see big changes in preparation for the July 4th holiday weekend, which will make it easy for beachgoers to do their part to Keep Tahoe Blue.
The BEBOT, Tahoe’s beach-cleaning robot, will clean the full extent of the beach, leaving a pristine stretch of sand. At the same time, dozens of portable restrooms, handwashing stations, and fencing will be unloaded and installed. Later in the week, signage and trash receptacles will be conveniently placed across the property. Together with other proactive steps, these preparations will encourage recreators to leave the beach as clean, or cleaner, than they found it. These efforts are part of Tahoe Blue Beaches, a program designed to “raise the bar for beach management” launched by the League to Save Lake Tahoe and USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The program is being pilot-tested at Zephyr Cove and Shoals in partnership with the site’s concessionaire, Aramark Destinations. Other beaches will also join the program this summer.

Representatives from the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Aramark Destinations, ECO-CLEAN Solutions, the League to Save Lake Tahoe, and one of the League’s volunteer Tahoe Blue Crews will be available for interviews.
The USDA Forest Service and League to Save Lake Tahoe are aligned with and taking action to implement the Lake Tahoe Destination Stewardship Plan in collaboration with over 20 regional organizations. The award-winning plan, developed with the participation of over 3,000 residents, visitors, and businesses, establishes a shared vision for the region’s outdoor recreation and tourism and encourages everyone to help take care of Tahoe’s cherished communities and environment. WHAT:

Aramark Destinations, the operator of Zephyr Cove Resort, will receive and install portable toilets, handwashing stations, and fencing so it is in place for July 4th. WHY:
Beachgoers who arrive to a clean beach are inspired to keep it that way. The beautiful scene will inspire them to take personal responsibility for their footprint and be good stewards of Lake Tahoe. Convenient bathrooms and trash receptacles, which will be marked on maps and signage throughout the property, will make it easy for beachgoers to make the right choice. This holistic approach to beach management is part of the Tahoe Blue Beaches program.
