With the threat of coronavirus hanging heavy over Northern California, the Lake Tahoe region has a message for visitors: Stay away.
“With immense compassion for everyone’s wish to be in the fresh mountain air, now is NOT the time to visit Truckee,” reads a Tuesday Facebook post from Visit Truckee.
After an alarmingly dry February, it was shaping up to be a slow close to the winter tourism season around Tahoe. Then, as coronavirus cases started emerging in the Bay Area and a storm front moved into the high Sierra late last week, skiers and travelers hopped in their cars and headed for the mountains.
