The town of Truckee is joining a growing list of places that are banning single-use water bottles to help protect the environment.
The Northern California town will start banning noncarbonated, unflavored water in single-use plastic bottles and paper cartons with less than one gallon in volume beginning on April 22.
The Truckee Town Council first approved the ordinance on Jan. 23.
The ban by Truckee is the latest effort by towns and cities to curb the use of single-use bottles and packaging.
In late 2022, the city of South Lake Tahoe amended its ordinance to ban single-use plastic bottles that are less than a gallon. The ban went into effect for city facilities and affiliated events in 2023 and will take effect citywide for all commercial vendors on April 22 this year as well…
