Hope Schmeltzer
Hope is partner at the environmental and land use law firm Monchamp Meldrum LLP where she focuses on obtaining permits for renewable energy and clean transportation projects. She spent almost 20 years in government, protecting California’s coast as Chief Counsel for the California Coastal Commission, working to clean up contaminated sites for U.S. E.P.A. and helping the University of California permit its Merced campus, as well as various other necessary campus buildings and functions. She also led the Governor’s Clean Energy Green Team during the 2000 energy crises, ensuring critical small energy facilities provided power while following environmental regulation.
Hope spends winters and summers skiing, hiking, paddling, biking and boating in and around Lake Tahoe. She believes the League’s innovative work to protect the Lake and the watershed is a model for what a nonprofit can achieve and looks forward to helping create and sustain the League’s successful programs.
