Marilee Movius

Sustainable Recreation Manager

Marilee is dedicated to preserving Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty by championing sustainable recreation practices. As the League’s Sustainable Recreation Manager, Marilee develops and implements events, programs, and initiatives to reduce human impact on Tahoe’s natural resources. She leads the League’s Signature Cleanup Events – including Earth Day, Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue, and Labor Day cleanups – and oversees the Tahoe Blue Crew, Tahoe Blue Beaches, and other sustainable recreation efforts. Under her leadership, the League’s programs foster community involvement while protecting the environment. Marilee’s passion ensures that residents and visitors can enjoy Tahoe responsibly for generations to come.

Marilee joined the League staff in 2014 after working for the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce for four years as their marketing and communications director. She played an integral part in developing the Chamber’s programs, such as the Sustainable Surf City Committee. Her passion for the environment also led her to chair the Surfrider Foundation’s Rise Above Plastics program for the Huntington Beach/Seal Beach Chapter as a volunteer. Marilee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism: Public Relations from California State University, Long Beach, and a certificate in graphic design from Golden West College.

Marilee grew up camping and hiking the Sierra. She enjoys backpacking, bike riding, yoga, snowboarding, paddleboarding, and crafting.
